Working in a dispersed manner and with exposed flanks means that officers of the combat forces should be educated differently. They should have greater tactical and operational independence and function within the framework of disturbed communication with large logistical autonomy. The centre of gravity of war is becoming more and more not the mass of the enemy and combat systems, but command and communication. Deprived of communication and command, troops are useless and have no combat value of any kind in a scattered battlefield. In fact, they can now be “encircled”, depriving them of combat strength with a fire maneuver and disabling the situational awareness system. This generates a whole new way of fighting.
