Herculaneum is a Roman city, located in Campania, Italy, which was destroyed along with Pompeii and Stabiae in 79 CE, as a result of the result of the eruption of Vesuvius. The good location – on the Gulf of Naples – meant that the city enjoyed the reputation of a great holiday resort.
